Updating a bean bag

Recently, for a customer, we had the privilege of recovering a bean bag for a girl’s room and a boy’s room. We chose a fun fabric that looked great in the room. Just by changing the fabric on your old chair, bean bag, pillow, couch…you can update your look quite simply.

It seems everywhere I look, the bird motif is very popular. This morning I see google using it to celebrate the 226th birthday of John James Audubon. Thank you to google for bringing such info to our attention. I’m seeing the bird motif over and over again in fabrics too.

Look at these sweet skirts by Oscar de la Renta. This display was used to showcase the new collection of Oscar de la Renta fabrics from Lee Jofa. I’m not quite sure what event you’d wear these to. Is there an event in Ottawa that calls for this? If so, sign me up. These Lee Jofa, Oscar skirts are such a great way to display these gorgeous fabrics. The skirts were then auctioned off for charity.

Shutter Solution

I came across this unique use for a window shutter on Martha Stewart’s site, while searching for a paint colour for a client. I had tried to sell some used window shutters on kijiji ottawa and had no takers, so maybe I’ll try this at some point. I imagine this would be a great solution for a busy family on the go. I suppose exterior or interior shutters would work.

Guess What’s Back in Style?

According to House and Home, valances are back in style. According to Faye Fortune Drapery Design, we agree. The return of valances, or maybe the evolution of valances are much more tailored looking. Less fuss and more clean lines are what works. Your valances may not need to be completely thrown out. If you’re still in love with the fabric, but the style of the heavy balloons is driving you crazy…why not update the look. We’ve had several of our Ottawa area clients keeping their fabric and changing the style. Taking out the bulk of the fabric can give you a wonderfully tailored look. Drapery Tie Backs

I was looking through “The New Curtain Book” by Stephanie Hoppen. She has some great pics and it is well laid out. She had a page of tie-backs, all different assortments. Made me think of the pics we have on file. Most drapery designers like the look of a straight drapery panel, but tie-backs shouldn’t be ruled out. They can add elegance or simplicity, depending on the style.

I’m amazed that my mom and I can get any work done around here. Every other week we get new fabric books in from some of our favourite companies (Kravet, Maxwell, Robert Allen). I could spend a day just looking through our new fabric books and getting ideas. The kind of ideas that make my husband say “why can’t you just be happy with the house the way it is!” Anyway, here is what I get to look at most days. Very inspiring!

Whenever we’re asked the question how two different window treatments will look in the same room…. we always have to think about what would keep the room looking unified if you did this. This picture is a fabulous example of mixing 2 different styles of window treatments together, not only in the same room but side by side. Here is a lazy roman shade and a panel of drapery. Keep the fabric the same… or matching and you can have a lot of fun.

One of the first things I do when staying at a hotel is to check out their window coverings. I’m sure most people notice them, but I tend to inspect them. The more modern the better of course. I think the window coverings in a hotel room can make or break the decor. www.StyleatHome.com has a ton of pictures from different hotel rooms around the world. Really inspiring. Makes me want to do some travelling just to check out the decor in other parts of the world. Maybe I’d do some sight seeing too, you never know.
