Window Coverings for doors
You know you need something on the window of your door but where do you start with window coverings for your doors?
The bed sheet just isn’t working anymore. Figure out what you need by following these simple steps.
Decide on a few things….
Fixed or Moveable. Do you need your window covering to move up and down? Do you want your window covering to stay in one place? Does your door open and close constantly, or is this a door that is never used because you use a side or back door?
Privacy Level. Do you need complete privacy from your neighbours? Do you want that initial privacy when people walk up to your front door?
The fallback fix for window treatments for doors is the sheer on the pocket rod at the top and the bottom. This method still works and is effective. For a more updated look, choose a fabric that’s modern. Sheers have really been revived and are stunning even if its for a small use, such as your front door. Decide if you want a blind, which is more contemporary or a modern fabric. Silhouettes are blinds from Hunter Douglas that are clean and modern and give you privacy all at once. Silhouettes are blinds that have slats that open and close with a layer of sheer enclosing the slats. Take a peak at some of the silhouettes blinds from Hunter Douglas
Light Filtration: Keep in mind how much light you want coming in your entrance way or at the back or side of your house. Blinds work well, but if you choose a black out blind you’ll be loosing a lot of light. Many blinds are made with a light filtrating fabric so they give you privacy but still allow the daylight in. Choose a light weight fabric if using a sheer or roman shade.
Options:
Blinds with slats: So if you’ve decided you need complete privacy, use a blind that has slats that open and close so you can control the privacy level. If you can, opt for a blind with a push up lifting system (you know one of those up down blinds) to avoid long cords if small children are in the house. This could be a wooden blind, a metal blind or a silhouette blind.
Roman shade: This will work for complete privacy, keep in mind that when people walk up to your front door, they will see the back of the roman shade with the rings and strings. This is not so bad at night, when you will mainly have the shade down.
Window frost: This is also another option to choose for complete privacy.
Sheer: If you’ve decided you need moderate privacy, a dense sheer will work well. If you prefer to have it on a rod at the top only, make sure you choose enough fabric that will bunch up and give you enough privacy.
